Barrier To Entry

A few states have licensing requirements, however these are simply “pay and receive” type licenses with no education required.  All sellers can sign up and sell the same day in ALL states.

Each state requires a license which can take up to a  year to start selling in some cases.  Licensees must pass the test and wait for processing.

Expenses

$85 a month to receive 7 websites, 2 proposal software’s, access to install solar across the US while branding yourself.  This is a “business in a box” with no non-compete.  

$85 a month and you receive a CRM, trainings and other tools.  In real estate you cannot work for multiple brokerages at the same time.  There are quarterly MLS dues of about $120 per quarter, Lockbox Dues, and yearly NAR dues of around $600.  

Money Making

On a $35,000 system the average commission is $7,000.  If financed, you receive 1.5% of the financed amount in a finance credit each month.  You also receive stock awards, and revenue share.

The real estate industry is so restrictive we cannot even talk about commission amounts. 

Revenue Share

Powur has 6 tiers of revenue share.  Powur gives back half of their profits back to the leadership team in the form of revenue share.  20% of Powur’s 30% to Tier 1, 10% to Tier 2, and 5% to Tier’s 3-6.  There is no revenue share cap.  You can make unlimited amounts of revenue share from one seller.  An example for a seller on your level 1 installing 100 deals in a year would equate to approximately $60,000 in revenue share.

eXp has 7 levels of revenue share.  Each level is capped at a specific dollar amount.  The first level is $2,800 per seller, the second is $3,200, the third level is $2,000, the fourth level is $1,200, the fifth level is $800, the sixth level is $2,000, and the 7th level is $4,000.  An example for an agent selling 100 homes on your level 1 in a year would equate to $2,800 a year in revenue share.

Competition

In solar there is only one company with a “platform model”.  Powur is a platform that sells solar, and is not limited to just selling solar.  They plan to sell all items to help with energy efficiency (HVAC, Windows/Doors, Electric Vehicles, Insulation, etc).  There are no other platform based solar companies competing with Powur.  Powur is the fastest growing solar company in the USA for the past 4 years.  

eXp was the first of the platform real estate companies to come into the industry, but many copy cats are popping up left and right taking market share.  Other companies are REAL, and LPT.  Starting a cloud based brokerage is become a trend and the competition is heating up.

Industry Specific

In solar kickbacks are legal.  You can monetarily incentive homeowners to refer you deals.  Building these “ambassadors” is incredibly lucrative.  Referral partner’s are paid $1,000 per referral.  You can onboard entire non-profits and even school districts to refer you deals in an exchange for a $1,000 donation. 

What is better than SOI leads? A monetarily incentivized SOI!

You can sell nationwide, all virtually. 

In real estate kickbacks are illegal.  You cannot pay a client for sending you a referral and you cannot buy gifts over $25.

You can only sell where you are licensed and real estate requires you to be present at the home in most circumstances.

If the NAR lawsuit goes the directly it is looking like, buyers agents as we know them may be obsolete.  Only the top listing agents will prevail.

Mentor Program

You must do three deals with a mentor when you first sign up to sell solar (unless you have over 1 year of solar selling experience), then you need 1 deal with a mentor.  After you complete your mentor deals you can complete 5 deals and become a mentor.  These mentors are being overloaded with hot deals at a 50/50 split.

You must do three deals with a mentor and then 5 on your own to become a mentor (same as Powur). 

Company Size

Powur has approximately 7,000 sellers on the platform.  The company is doubling year after year.  Given the barrier to entry and that practically anyone can be a seller or a lead generator immediately the amount of sellers can be virtually unlimited

eXp has approximately 87,000 agents as of May 2023.  Their growth has  slowed substantially as new competitors have come into the market.  FLQA numbers are dwindling for the top builders.

Economy Specific

In a flourishing economy buyers will more often pay cash and add extras such as smart panels, HVAC, etc…

In a down economy homeowners will need to save money more than ever, so with 0$ out of pocket, it is a no brainer to lower your electrical bill to get financial relief.  

In an economy with low interest rates and rising home prices, real estate is an amazing business to be in! We have been spoiled the last 10+ years.  

In an economy with 7%+ interest rates, extremely low inventory and where people are struggling with inflation, it can be an INCREDIBLY difficult time for real estate agents.  There are not enough deals to go around.
