Just a few days ago, the U.S. Department of Interior granted essential approval to one of the most significant advances in Nevada’s solar industry. We’re talking about the Libra Solar Project, a significant investment into solar power and its potential for the future.
Arevia Power is behind this remarkable project, with financial backing to the tune of $2.3 billion. The Libra Solar Project holds the spotlight as the biggest co-located solar enterprise in Nevada, boasting specifications of 700 MW solar, plus 700 MW/2.8 GWh battery storage. Arevia Power plans to position this project about 30 kilometers south of the Fort Churchill substation in Yerington, near the Mineral County/Lyon County border. The firm aims to have this mighty solar project operational by the end of 2027.
A vital power purchase agreement signed in June 2021 between Arevia Power and NV Energy, a local utility, sets the stone rolling towards realization.
But that’s not all on the solar horizon for Nevada. In its announcement, the U.S. Department of Interior affirmed approval for NV Energy’s proposed Greenlink West transmission project. Spanning over 350 miles from Las Vegas to Yerington, this project has the potential to significantly ramp up the state’s transmission capacity.
On a similar note, the Bonanza Solar Project Draft Resource Management Plan Amendment and Environmental Impact Statement comment period was officially opened by the Bureau of Land Management. This proposed 300 MW solar facility includes a 195 MW/780 MWh battery storage system and a 5.4-mile gen-tie line on approximately 5,133 acres of public lands in Clark and Nye counties, near Las Vegas.
