Today, I have some fascinating news for all solar enthusiasts, particularly those who are living in the sunny State of California and are eager to maximize the efficiency and sustainability of their homes.
If you’ve been involved with solar companies or researched solar panels for your home, you’ve probably come across the term net energy metering (NEM). In essence, it’s a billing method that lets you earn some bucks back for any excess solar energy you generate and send back to the grid. A real win-win situation, right?
However, as we all know, things can sometimes change with such initiatives, and this was the case in California. In April 2023, NEM underwent its transition to the NEM 3.0 phase, unfortunately leading to some considerable reductions in the reimbursements for solar-arrayed homes.
Naturally, this led to a conundrum. Any solar company’s main goal is to install panels and systems that adapt to the homeowners’ needs while maximizing energy generation. And for those already benefiting from the NEM 1.0 or 2.0, making any adjustments or enhancements seemed to be off the table – as it would mean moving to the less profitable NEM 3.0 system.
