Harnessing the Sun: Solar Power Revolution at Atlanta Motorsports Park

Welcome back to my enlightening corner of the solar industry! Today, I am thrilled to share news of a landmark solar project within the motorsports community. Positioned on a fast track towards sustainability is the Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, Georgia, which has unveiled plans to install a significant solar array on their campus.

Revving up their commitment to renewable energy, this innovative solar project will generate about 60% of power for the club’s operations. This is an impressive achievement, and one which brings the Park closer to becoming a self-sustaining entity, a vision stated by their CEO, Jeremy Porter. But the adventures in the realm of renewable energy don’t end here, this motorsports club has also invested in electric vehicle charging, installing both level 3 DC superchargers and level 2 chargers amongst their facilities.

Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of the solar array. The set-up will comprise of 747 solar panels, each boasting a power of 480 W. This sums up to a total of 358 kW onsite solar power. To put this into perspective, it is equivalent to the power demand of about 300 homes!

The benefits of comprehensive solar plans are multifaceted, to say the least. Harnessing the power of the sun, particularly via solar panels for your home, allows us to tap into a constant, renewable, and planet-friendly source, in turn, allowing us to meet our energy demands without depleting the world’s finite resources.

The solar company propelling this project into action is the Georgia-based Hannah Solar. Kudos to them for procuring high-quality solar panels from Qcells, a manufacturer that operates locally.

Beyond the obvious ecological benefits, such a large-scale installation of a solar array for homes and businesses can produce substantial amounts of electricity. The projected generation of this project alone stands at an impressive 450,300 kWh annually. Strategically incorporating such a measure can successfully offset a sizable amount of CO2 emissions.

In the case of the Motorports Park’s project, it’s projected to offset an estimated 7,312 pounds of CO2 emissions over a 30-year period. To give you a context of the scale, this is akin to reducing over 16.6 million miles of road vehicle travel or planting a whopping 109,600 trees!

It is noteworthy that the project was able to secure a grant from the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program Renewable Energy Systems (REAP) program, where it was able to recoup 50% of its total costs.
