In a groundbreaking move, two internationally renowned entities in the solar realm, Heliene, a top-notch solar panel provider in North America and Premier Energies, the second largest solar cell manufacturer in India, are joining forces. They’re set to establish a state-of-the-art solar cell manufacturing facility right here in the United States. This joint venture marks a significant stride towards enhancing the solar array for home options domestically.
With an anticipated output of 1 GW of N-Type cells annually, this innovative operation promises to substantially boost Heliene and Premier’s solar cell availability. Currently, Heliene procures solar cells from Premier’s cache in Hyderabad, India, to create modules at its Mountain Iron, MN location.
The driving force behind this significant joint venture is the shared vision of both entities – to offer top-tier, highly reliable products to solar customers. “With demand for U.S.-made modules and components growing, now is the perfect time to embark on the next phase of our partnership with this joint venture,” stated Martin Pochtaruk, CEO of Heliene.
This partnership bodes well for both parties. Heliene is set to provide project management, construction, facility operations, financial resources and management, human resources, supply chain and logistics, and regulatory expertise. Premier, on the other hand, will bring to the table their financial resources, cell technology engineering, operational expertise in cell manufacturing, raw material vendor relationships, and manufacturing equipment selection.
This joint venture by Premier and Heliene arrives at a crucial time. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 introduced a variety of tax credits and incentives to boost clean energy manufacturing in the United States. This has led numerous large businesses to announce plans for solar module manufacturing facilities. However, the initial stages of the supply chain, such as raw polysilicon, ingots, wafers, and solar cell production facilities, have been slower to develop, creating gaps in the local supply chain. By introducing crucial solar cell manufacturing capacity to U.S shores, Premier and Heliene are contributing significantly towards filling these gaps.
This latest solar development indeed signals a brighter future for solar in the United States. As the availability of domestic solar cells expands, so too will our options for creating a customized solar array for homes.
