Hello to all my fellow solar enthusiasts, today I’d like to shed some light on an agreement that could significantly impact the solar industry. Solar company Tesla recently received a mammoth order from U.S. developer Intersect Power. Now, to put it in perspective, this order amounts to around a staggering 165% of total battery energy storage systems Tesla offered in Q2 2024, which had, until now, been its historical zenith.
Brightening our solar future, Intersect Power has plans to deploy a whooping 15.3 GWh of Tesla’s Megapacks throughout its solar-plus-storage project portfolio over the next decade. Coupled with prior commitments, we can look forward to nearly 10 GWh of these Megapacks lighting up our world by the end of 2027.
Solar companies like Tesla and Intersect Power are essential catalysts in the transition to clean energy. For instance, Tesla’s Megapacks have previously powered Intersect Power’s Base Portfolio of solar-plus-storage facilities, adding a collective 2.4 GWh in operation or under construction. This includes two impressive solar-plus-storage facilities in California: Oberon, with 1 GWh up and running, and Athos III, with 448 MWh in operation.
Furthermore, an extra 1 GWh of Tesla Megapacks are currently being installed at the Radian and Lumina solar-plus-storage facilities in Texas. These will be fully functional by the end of this year. And believe me when I say, this is just the beginning.
Intersect Power has plans to utilize over half of the new order for four projects in California and Texas. These projects, expected to be operational by the end of 2027, will include some of the largest battery installations in the country. That makes the remaining balance earmarked for Intersect Power’s subsequent portfolio of solar-plus-storage facilities due to come online between 2028-30.
Broadening the horizon for solar panels for your home, Sheldon Kimber, CEO of Intersect Power, shared that this storage franchise is a perfect accompaniment to the company’s ambitious renewable generation expansion plans. Aiming to triple the size of the company over the next three years, they are expecting to add a multi-billion dollar boost to this sector.
Notably, Intersect Power develops, owns, and operates some of the country’s largest battery storage projects as part of its solar-plus-storage facilities in Texas and California. These facilities boast 2.2 GW of operating solar PV and 2.4 GWh of storage either in operation or under construction.
These recent developments are a beacon of promise for the future of the solar industry. For homeowners considering solar array for home, such partnerships between solar companies represent exciting advancements in the sector. Solar is a smart, sustainable choice for homeowners and the community at large, but with these innovations and the continuing expansion of the industry, solar energy is set to become more efficient and accessible than ever.
In conclusion, the synergy between solar companies like Tesla and Intersect power brings us one step closer to a future where solar panels for your home are the norm rather than the exception, pushing us toward a brighter, greener future. Stay tuned with me as we explore and learn more about this fascinating industry!
