Hello Solar Enthusiasts,
If you’re keen on learning about the latest advancements in solar technology, you’re in the right place! Today, I’ll be focusing on an exciting development by a Chinese solar company – the unveiling of their Generation 3 Comet series of solar panels. This new product boasts a record-breaking power conversion efficiency of 25.2%, a figure that’s sure to turn heads in the solar industry.
What sets this solar panel series apart is its unique all-back-contact (ABC) solar cell technology. This proprietary technology offers a variety of benefits that I’m thrilled to dive into. Excitingly, the Comet Generation 3 solar module is expected to hit the market in the last quarter of 2024.
This groundbreaking solar module uses only copper in their backside-located solar cell connections. This is worth noting because copper typically necessitates thicker busbars, a challenge the company bypassed by shifting these connections to the back of the solar panel.
The new module series will be available in five versions, each differing in power output and efficiency. The power output ranges between 625 W and 650 W, while the efficiency spans from 24.2% to 25.2%. These are certainly impressive figures to any solar enthusiast, sparking interest in solar panels for your home. The dimensions and weight of the module make it a viable option for installing a solar array for home use.
These panels incorporate high-performing features such as 3.2 mm tempered anti-reflective glass, an IP68 enclosure, and aluminum frames. With a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/C, these panels can operate within a temperature range from -40 C to 85 C. This resilience guarantees durability and high performance throughout the year, regardless of the weather patterns.
I should also mention that Aiko provides a reassuring 30-year performance warranty for these solar panels. This means that homeowners and solar companies can have the peace of mind of a robust guarantee, which includes less than 1% degradation in the first year and an end power output of no less than 88.85% of the nominal power after 30 years.
Perhaps the most remarkable feature of these new solar panels is their unique cell layout. The solar cells overlap by about 0.3 mm, enabling more electricity generation within the same area – providing approximately 0.5% more sun-facing silicon. This, along with moving all of the string connectors to the back of the module via ABC technology, increases the light absorption area by 1.1%.
About 93.5% of the solar module’s surface area is made up of solar cells, which significantly boosts its energy absorption and output. This shift in cell interconnections does reduce bifaciality to around 70%, but it’s a worthwhile trade-off given the significant advantages these panels have in partial shade situations.
Stay tuned to this space for more exciting updates from the world of solar energy! Let’s go solar together, build a sustainable future, and reap the benefits it brings. Let me know if you have any questions or if there are other solar topics you’d like to know more about.
