Recently, US research scientists at Rice University in Houston, Texas, have uncovered an effective way to enhance the stability of perovskite solar cells. Their method involves utilizing a “seasoning” technique with two-dimensional (2D) perovskites.
For the uninitiated, formamidinium lead iodide is a chemical used in high-efficiency perovskite solar cells. The researchers hypothesized if this solution could be tempered using more stable 2D perovskites as a template, this might confer superior stability during growth.
To test this theory, the researchers fabricated four types of 2D perovskites, with half closely matching the surface structure of formamidinium lead iodide. The findings were much as expected!
