“Sun Shines Brighter in Virginia: A Breakdown of the Newly Passed Pro-Solar Legislation”

Greetings to all my solar enthusiasts, and welcome back to my blog. I have some exciting news about developments in the solar industry that might be game-changing, especially if you’re from Virginia or interested in solar panels for your home.

Recently, the Virginia General Assembly took a significant leap forward in promoting renewable energy by passing both House Bill 1062 and Senate Bill 271. These will come into law from the 1st of July, and they present an encouraging future for solar companies and homeowners!

So, what are the perks these bills bring? For starters, they promote third-party solar leasing. This is great news for homeowners interested in solar array for their home but aren’t up for the outright purchase. Now, you can enjoy the benefits of solar energy while the solar company takes care of the installation and maintenance – not a bad deal, right?

But that’s not all! The new laws will also prohibit additional liability insurance for solar installation and veto the standby charges for energy storage. This means that transitioning to solar energy becomes more affordable for everyone.

These bills are pivotal in achieving Virginia’s ambitious goals of 30% renewable energy by 2030 and a whopping 100% by 2050. Let’s not forget that although the buildout has primarily been on the utility-scale, these bills will boost solar and energy storage at the residential and commercial levels.

Delegate Rodney Willett, a prime sponsor for these bills, said, “This bill will help the Commonwealth look forward in our clean energy transition, attract more businesses to Virginia, and allow more people to utilize solar energy in a more affordable and accessible way.” An ideal future, isn’t it?

Now, let’s take a quick snapshot of the solar sector in Virginia. Currently, this state ranks 11th for solar installed, with nearly 5 GW of capacity, and it meets an impressive 6.56% of its electrical needs with solar.

This exciting update puts the power back into the consumer’s hands, quite literally! Consumers can choose solar panels for their home, enjoy reliable and safe installations by solar companies, and reap the benefits of affordable use of solar energy.

Stay tuned for more intriguing updates from the world of solar. If you have any questions or would like to know more about solar array for home, feel free to drop a comment or send an email. Until next time, keep harnessing the sun!
