The solar industry is rapidly evolving, and to keep up with these exciting changes, it is essential to stay educated and informed. Today, we dive into some fascinating solar developments taking place around the world. I’ll be sharing insights on the Department of Energy’s roadmap, the premiere of a solar-powered yacht in Italy, the importance of specialized EPC contractors in smaller community solar projects, and a Massachusetts city’s latest success in mandating solar power. It’s an exciting time to be in the world of solar!
Let’s start with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) roadmap which encourages solar developers to opt for the “connect and manage” strategy. To hasten the interconnection of utility-scale renewables and storage projects, the DOE has outlined 35 distinct solutions and proposed certain actions to implement them. This roadmap, known as i2X, was put together via a comprehensive stakeholder process. If you’re thinking of getting involved with solar companies or thinking of starting a solar company, these are exactly the kind of developments you should keep an eye on!
Next on our agenda is the exciting news out of Italy. Silent Yachts has made history by launching the first Silent 62 3-Deck yacht. This luxury yacht is powered by a generous 17 kWp of SunPower X400+ rigid glass solar modules and a newly enhanced 350 kWh LiFePO4 battery storage system. Their propulsion? Dual 340 kW electric motors! This is an excellent example of how solar panels for your home (or in this case, your yacht), can make a substantial difference.
Moving on, we delve into community solar projects. To make these projects financially viable, we need innovative financing models and supportive policies. Specialized EPC contractors play a crucial role in this process, making community solar projects attractive to investors. If you’re considering a solar array for your home, community solar projects might be a good option to investigate.
Last but definitely not least, let’s turn our attention to Watertown, Massachusetts. This progressive city mandates the use of solar on new buildings and they are celebrating the latest success with a Gold LEED certified building. The building features a 252 kW solar and 125 kW storage system, along with 15 EV charging ports. This sets a meaningful precedent for other cities working to integrate solar power into their urban landscapes.
Stay tuned to our next post where I will talk about more innovations and updates in the solar industry. The future is indeed bright, and with the swift developments taking place every day, there’s a whole lot to look forward to!
