Conquering the Sun: Inside the NABCEP Conference 2024 in Raleigh

Hello Solar Enthusiasts,

If you’re as passionate about all things solar as I am, you’ll appreciate this exciting update from the solar industry. Recently, I attended the 14th annual continuing education conference of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) in Raleigh, North Carolina. This year’s conference was the largest to date, boasting over 1,000 registrants. It’s incredible to see such growth in the interest of solar, solidifying the role of solar companies in our future.

This conference is a locus of professional development in the solar industry, packed with over 70 technical training sessions. Solar installers from various solar companies, all NABCEP-certified, made their way to these sessions, eager for recertification and to learn about the latest in solar advancements. The newest certification introduced at the conference this year was the Energy Storage Installation Professional (ESIP), a promising step towards ensuring a sustainable future with energy storage systems.

Keynote speaker, Steve Kalland, Executive Director of the North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center, delivered a stirring presentation to solar professionals. He discussed the evolution of solar from being merely “Potentially Viable” (PV) in the 80s to becoming an increasingly dominant player in energy technologies today. The improvements in efficiency, decreased costs, and favorable policies have all contributed to this rise, bringing us to today’s challenge: how quickly can we build to meet the growing demand for solar panels for your home?

In honor of NABCEP’s 20-year journey, this year’s conference included a special “Pioneers in Solar Breakfast”. Here, seasoned solar professionals who have been in the industry for decades shared experiences and insights, making the occasion particularly noteworthy.

NABCEP’s conference was also coupled with a sold-out exhibit hall bustling with over 100 exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge tools of the trade and latest innovations in solar technology. It provided the perfect opportunity for attendees to scout solar array for home options and gain invaluable knowledge on the future directions of the industry. The hall was a vibrant mix of technology, enthusiasm, and a shared passion for solar energy.

Attending the conference was a remarkable experience. It pushed the boundaries of solar knowledge forward, sparking innovations today that will power our homes, cities, and countries tomorrow. As we delve deeper into the intricacies of this renewable energy source, it becomes increasingly clear that the future of energy is indeed, solar.

Until Next Time,
